Intellectual Property Questions
Why did the intellectual property rights start? who invented them? I'd really appreciate if some one can explain the answers to following questions as soon as possible. 1. Why did the intellectual property rights start? (what was the need) 2. Who invented them? 3. Which was the very first country to introduce it? 4. Who introduced this term for the very first time? Plus, it will be of great help to me if anyone could also explain how did the concept of intellectual rights come to Pakistan?
How do I register the intellectual property of an investment project? I have finished an investment project for a Logistics Activities Area. It's more or less like a group of warehouses providing services as 3rd party logistics providers for companies in international commerce. It is oriented to trucking, because it's the main (almost only) transport mode in Mercosur. I need to register the intellectual property before starting to offer it for sale. I live in Uruguay but I intend to sell the project worldwide. How do i register it? Is it valid to register it as a book? May I register at least the layout of the complex and the architecture? I am the only author of the project, which is my thesis work in Industrial Engineering. 1. Where do you want to register? At the Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay), the USA and in Europe (at least Italy and Spain which are the most active here) 2. What do you want to register? The market research, the business plan, the architecture (incuding the layout and the designs of the warehouses) and the refrigerated warehouse design. 3. How do you plan to use the IP? I want to sell it to any company that works as 3PL provider, transfering my rights to them.
What are the intellectual property policies concerning academic papers written for conferences or journals ? I am wondering what are the exact legal terms concerning the Intellectual Property for academic or corporate research papers published in proceedings, presented at conferences or realized within a specific academic assignment ? Who owns the papers ? If this is the university or academic institution, is the author still allowed to diffuse his/her papers freely ? Why do we have to pay for a big proportion of the academic papers found on the Internet ? Where to get more information about this topic ? Thank you !
How do I protect my intellectual property rights in the UK? Over the last year or so, I have written an educational 'self help' course, based on my experience and training as a counseller. I currently deliver this to groups, arranged by schools, and am finding a high demand. To accompany the course I have written an illustrated booklet. Can anyone with experience in this field offer advice on how to go about protecting my intellectual property rights to this work?
Why is real property for ever and intellectual property not? When one creates a real property, ie. builds a house on his own land, he retains the rights to it in perpetuity. When an artist creates an intellectual property, it will go out of copyright (unless renewed and there's a limit to that, I think) in a number of years. Why is real property treated differently from intellectual property? Is there a solid reason in the law? Shouldn't the artist retain his rights in perpetuity as well? Unless, of course, he elects to transfer them?

My blog: http://mylifeandart.typepad.com I twist balloon art live during events. You can read media articles about me on the left side of my page under 'Press Coverage' (click on the blue links, each is a press story) I want to find an intellectual property (entertainment) attorney who would advise me on how I can leverage my brand, The Russian Queen of Balloons, and cross over into: 1) product development under my brand name and/or endorsement of a product or service; and/or licensing of my "name and personality". What are the ways that I can use to find an honest, well-connected intellectual property / entertainment attorney?
Is an engineering or science degree necessary to practice intellectual property law? I'm a first year law student with a background in web development. I've always been fascinated by online copyright issues and media distribution, so intellectual property seems like a good area to focus on for my second and third years. However, I've heard from a least one person that IP lawyers are pretty much required to have engineering or science degrees. My undergraduate work is in english and philosophy. Does this mean I don't have much of a chance as a copyright attorney?

Should intellectual property rights be stripped to stop global warming? Not only are international hands being extended to collect funds from countries like the United States in order to help poorer nations deal with a problem that might actually be disappearing since global temperatures peaked in 1998, but climate change is also being used as a means of stripping intellectual property rights from companies that have created new more eco-friendly energy technologies. Feast your eyes on the following report from Bali by the Associated Press Wednesday under the headline "Poor Nations Demand Climate Technology" Developing nations at the U.N. Climate Change Conference demanded rapid transfers of technology Wednesday to help them combat global warming, while a report warned that some of Asia's biggest cities could be threatened by rising sea levels. [...] Delegates and activists led by the Group of 77, which represents 132 mainly developing countries and China, said barriers such as intellectual property rights and a lack of a sense of urgency among rich countries are slowing the transfer of needed technology. But Zou Ji, a member of China's delegation who specializes in clean-energy-technology issues, said in an interview he would introduce a proposal during the meeting that would set up a body under the United Nations to promote the transfer of renewable-energy technology to poorer nations. He will also propose that the U.N. body manage a fund that would help finance the spread of new, clean-power technologies. The fund also would support research on clean-energy technology and could acquire intellectual-property rights related to clean power. "We are dealing with something related to public good," Mr. Zou said. "It's a trade-off between intellectual-property rights and climate protection." Picture becoming clearer? In order to save the planet from the bogeyman these folks helped create and instill fear of, American companies that conceivably have been working for years to develop new energy technologies must forfeit their rights to such valuable property. does the phrase some like to use, "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." not apply in this case for some reason?
How do I go about establishing intellectual property to protect someone else from stealing it in Louisiana? I worked with someone in the past about starting up a business. I created the name and the logo of the business, and now he wants to set up this business by himself, using the name and the logo as his own personal design. How do I go about trying to legally prevent him from doing so, or at least gain royalties out of it? I live in Slidell Louisiana, and the business is a convention. I created the name and the mascot for the convention and now he's trying to steal my ideas, please help.

What are Intellectual Property Rights on starting a on-line business? Hi, I am thinking about starting an online business that provides a service. Although there are currently NO online services for this discipline there is one other service that I have seen that will work similar to mine. I am sure that there are many online services that could fall into an IPR dispute! So my question is: What are the IPR regulations on starting an online service business?
How to secure intellectual property? I have an idea that I would like to create and sell. I was wondering what the steps are to bring it to market while protecting myself. How do I go about getting a patent for it. How do I go about creating an NDA for it legally so I can hire people to help me create it. What else should I know about in bringing an intellectual property through creation and into market?

What do you think about illegal use of American intellectual property in Russia and other countries? Illegal use of foreign intellectual property was a common business during the Soviet time; not much has changed since then despite economical reforms in Russia. Plagiarists are now as before re-writing and publishing under their names professional manuals and handbooks. Piracy of software is seen as normal business.
